Know MoreTogether with the trials of the Pendle witches in 1612 and for being the site of the birth of the Quaker movement, the area is famed for its spectacular Pennine landscape and wildlife and is therefore popular with walkers, runners, cyclists and bird watchers alike. You’ll find established routes radiating from the area such as the Walking with Witches trail, the Four Reservoir walks and Bowland by Bike.
For those who can bring themselves to leave the immediate area, the Forest of Bowland covers an area of 803km² of rural Lancashire, as well as North Yorkshire. There is also easy access to the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the scenic Lancashire coastline.
The neighbouring mill towns and villages of Roughlee, Barnoldswick, Nelson, Barrowford and Colne offer a quirky mix of traditional and trendy, with mill outlets and weekly markets together with vintage and designer shops.
