Together with the trials of the Pendle witches in 1612 and for being the site of the birth of the Quaker movement, the area is famed for its spectacular Pennine landscape and wildlife and is therefore popular with walkers, runners, cyclists and bird watchers alike. You’ll find established routes radiating from the area such as the Walking with Witches trail, the Four Reservoir walks and Bowland by Bike.
For those who can bring themselves to leave the immediate area, the Forest of Bowland covers an area of 803km² of rural Lancashire, as well as North Yorkshire. There is also easy access to the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the scenic Lancashire coastline.
The neighbouring mill towns and villages of Roughlee, Barnoldswick, Nelson, Barrowford and Colne offer a quirky mix of traditional and trendy, with mill outlets and weekly markets together with vintage and designer shops. A short drive will take you to the historic towns of Clitheroe and Skipton, each boasting its own castle.
With such breathtaking countryside on your doorstep, this really is an outstanding location for your next break away.
Absolutely lovely stay, super private, lots of areas to walk. Honest lovely too and were available if we needed them or just left us to it if we didn’t. Pictures don’t do this place justice!
We stayed at the Hen House in early August, as a family of 4 adults with one dog, and we loved it. The hosts were very helpful and approachable throughout our stay. On our last evening, we enjoyed a meal at the Pendle Inn. We will definitely look at booking again in the future.
Beautiful well equipped cottage. Owners are very helpful. If you want peace and tranquillity and wonderful views you will love this. We could easily live there permanently! Highly recommend!
Lovely cosy cottage. Spacious and spotless. Perfect for peace, quiet and walks. Fab location for Pendle hill and the sculpture trail. Both pubs serve delicious food and drinks.
Lovely hosts, very comfortable and warm, fantastic having 3 on suite bathrooms. This is a stunning location for walking but near to local towns, 2 great pubs serving good food in the village.
Cottage perfect unable to fault it in anyway. Beds very comfortable, anything needed was provided including condiments. Owner very helpful but not intrusive. Would certainly recommend and return.
We booked both Hen House & Rooster, for a family meet-up. The cottages are beautiful, well equipped & spacious, and set in a beautiful location. My only regret is that we didn’t book it for longer. Definitely hope to revisit it in the future!
Beautiful cottage which is very cosy, and the views from the cottage are amazing.
A wonderful peaceful break from day to day life.
Absolutely amazing cottage great attention to detail and the hosts could not have been more welcoming. The cottage looked Christmassy and they had even left selection boxes for the boys.
Great value for money hosts very helpful spotlessly clean. Dogs were very welcome and we will be looking to book again.
